On Tuesday the Government announced its post-2020 climate change target - 11% reduction in emissions by 2030 relative to 1990.
Over 15,000 people submitted on the target through the climate consultation in May and over 99 per cent of those who specified a target asked for one higher than this. These calls for ambition have been ignored by the Government.
They have gone ahead with a “bare minimum” minimum, hoping that New Zealanders would let it slide.
Well - we’re not going to. We’re going to be taking a range of actions over the next few weeks and we need you to help make this happen.
Our first action in Wellington is letter-writing. We'll be writing to MPs and newspapers, getting the word out that we won't be ignored. Our MPs and Ministers are obliged to read and respond to letters so we have an opportunity to let them know how New Zealanders feel about the new target.
Join us to write a letter and make your voice heard.
